Magherafelt Nursery School has been awarded its third Eco-Schools Green Flag by the environmental charity ‘Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful.’ The Eco-Schools initiative is the world’s largest environmental education programme and aims to make environmental awareness and action an intrinsic part of the life of the school. The internationally recognised ‘Green flag’ is the highest award given to an Eco School.
Led by Mrs McGill, the Eco Team undertook a range of topics and activities to help their local environment including collecting litter, planting fruit bushes and seed potatoes and recycling rainwater for garden projects using our newly installed water butts.
During the school closure, the beehive was lovingly restored and repainted by a friend and former parent of the school, Frances Martin. The bees have been busy settling in and the children are enjoying observing their activity!
A big ‘Well Done’ to all the boys and girls and to Mrs McGill for all their hard work and enthusiasm.
